Dr. Sylvian Fachard is a Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Lausanne and the Director of the Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece. He was the A. W. Mellon, Professor at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (2017–2020) and a researcher at Brown University and Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies. He has conducted extensive fieldwork and archaeological research in Greece, focusing on landscape studies, environmental reconstruction, the formation of city-states, and ancient borders. His area of specialization includes archaeological field surveys, LiDAR-based remote sensing, GIS applications, spatial analysis, and architectural documentation. Fachard currently co-directs with Prof. Anna-Sapfo Malaspinas (University of Lausanne, Computational Biology) a large aDNA project on the population of Euboea and the Aegean.
