Shogo Tanaka is a professor of psychology and philosophy at Tokai University in Japan. He is also a research fellow at RIKEN. He received his Ph.D. in philosophical psychology from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Dr. Tanaka is primarily interested in phenomenology and psychology, specifically, in clarifying the theoretical foundations of psychology from the perspective of embodiment and draws inspiration from the ideas of Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Edmund Husserl. The topics of his published papers encompass a broad range of issues, including body schema, body image, skill acquisition, embodied self, social cognition, and intercorporeality. From 2013 to 2014, and from 2016 to 2017, he was a visiting scholar at the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Heidelberg in Germany, where he worked on phenomenology, psychology, and psychopathology. His publications include Body Schema & Body Image: New Directions (Oxford University Press, 2021, co-edited with Yochai Ataria and Shaun Gallagher).
