Jungsang Kim, Ph.D. is the Schiciano Family Distinguished Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Physics at Duke University, where he has led many collaborative research and development projects at the frontier of foundational quantum computing technologies since 2004. In 2015, Kim co-founded IonQ with his long-time colleague Dr. Chris Monroe, to commercialize quantum computers. Prior to joining Duke University, Kim was a Technical Manager and a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, working on optical and wireless communication technologies. Kim received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea (1992), and his Ph.D. degree in Physics from Stanford University in Stanford, CA, USA (1999). He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, American Physical Society and Optica (formerly Optical Society of America).
