John Goold is Professor in Physics at Trinity College Dublin and his research focuses on the non-equilibrium thermodynamics of quantum systems with a specific focus on many-body physics. In recent years, he has established extensive collaborations with the private sector, particularly in the realm of quantum simulation. John has made seminal contributions to the field of quantum thermodynamics and has collaborated with several top experimental groups, proposing novel methods for extracting non-equilibrium thermodynamic quantities. In 2018, leveraging support from an SFI-Royal Society University Research Fellowship and an ERC Starting Grant, John founded the QuSys research group at Trinity College Dublin. Additionally, he initiated and currently directs the Trinity Quantum Alliance, an initiative fostering collaborations between the private sector and the academic community. John also played a pivotal role in establishing a vibrant MSc program in Quantum Science and Technology at Trinity, one of the first of its kind internationally with uniqueindustry input and fully funded scholarships from the private sector.
