Fabrizio Hochschild draws on over 30 years of experience in international cooperation, conflict mediation, humanitarian action and post-conflict peace building with practical expertise in facilitating synergy between political, human rights and development work to alleviate the plight of the most disadvantaged.
From 2019-2021 Mr. Hochschild was Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General leading a worldwide consultation process gathering millions of voices on the state of the world and our common future concluding in a political declaration adopted by the UN General Assembly at the occasion of the United Nations’ 75th anniversary. He also led the United Nations’ work on digital cooperation bringing together governments, civil society, academia, the technology companies, and other international and local actors to develop the United Nations Secretary-General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation.
From 2017 to 2019, Mr. Hochschild served in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, where he established and led system-wide coordination and strategic thinking processes. Prior to this, he was Deputy Special Representative for the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Colombia, Director of the UN Field Personnel Division, and Chief of Field Operations and Technical Cooperation in the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR). He started his career in 1987 as volunteer Forester in Darfur in Sudan and there joined the UN’s refugee agency (UNHCR). He has since served in various countries affected by conflict including East Timor, the former Yugoslavia, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
A graduate of the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, Mr. Hochschild has published studies and articles on a broad variety of topics.
