Thomas Brox received his Ph.D. in computer science from the Saarland University, Germany in 2005. He was a postdoc at the University of Bonn, the University of Dresden, and the University of California at Berkeley. In 2010, he became full professor for Computer Vision at the University of Freiburg. He received the Longuet-Higgins Best Paper Award in 2004 and the Koenderink Prize for Fundamental Contributions in Computer Vision in 2014 for his work on optical flow estimation. With his team, he pioneered several encoder-decoder based deep learning approaches, such as U-Net and FlowNet. He is an ELLIS fellow and, since 2020, he is also an Amazon Scholar in the Tübingen lablet.
