My research group at Delft University of Technology is built around the theme of microbe – bacteriophage interactions, and tackles important questions related to how bacteria become resistant to phage infection and how bacteriophages escape defense systems. This theme is highly relevant for potential clinical use of bacteriophages to treat infections by antibiotic resistant infectious bacteria. I have founded a national open source bacteriophage biobank (www.fagenbank.nl) that can serve as a resource for phage therapy research. We combine microbiology, biochemistry and virology with biophysics and bioinformatics.
