Ross King is Full Professor of Data Science and AI at Chalmers University of Technology, where he leads research on the automation of science. He originated the concept of the “Robot Scientist”: AI-driven laboratory systems able to generate hypotheses, design and run experiments, interpret results and iterate autonomously. His first Robot Scientist, Adam, became the first machine to autonomously discover scientific knowledge, while Eve has been applied to early-stage drug discovery and identifying lead compounds against neglected tropical diseases. At Chalmers, King’s group is developing Genesis, a third-generation Robot Scientist for systems biology. His research also spans machine learning, synthetic biology and DNA computing, with a broader aim of using AI to make scientific discovery faster and more productive.
