I am the Director of the Centre for Translation Studies, which I joined in September 2014.
I have worked as a freelance translator since 2001, from French and English to Italian, and I take any (now rare) opportunity to translate also in my current research-focused role. I hold a BA in English and French language and Literature from "La Sapienza" University in Rome. I completed my postgraduate education in the UK, first conducting research at the University of Reading, before securing a full scholarship to join the stimulating University of Leeds for my PhD. I was awarded my doctorate in 2007, with a thesis investigating the influence of creative translation on Italo Calvino's style and reflections on the evolution of the Italian language. I joined the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham in September 2006 and worked there until 2014.
