Daniel holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering jointly awarded by the universities of Waterloo and Bordeaux. His expertise is in macromolecular chemistry and the design and characterization of self-assembled nanostructures. His research focused on the design of stimuli-responsive structures for targeted drug delivery applications. He was awarded the Waterloo Institute of Nanotechnology Nanofellowship and the France Canada Research Fund Scholarship for Young Scientists.

Prior to becoming Director of Research at CIFAR Daniel was a Research and Business Development Manager at Ontario Genomics where he led the Disruptive Innovations in Genomics funding program and worked to build large-scale applied genomics partnerships and shepherd them through their life cycle.

Daniel also holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto specializing in marketing and business design.
