    Professor Nam-Hai Chua is currently Andrew W. Mellon Professor Emeritus and Head of Plant Molecular Biology, The Rockefeller University. He is Temasek Senior Investigator (Emeritus) of Temasek Life Science Laboratory (Singapore) and a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Biochemistry Department, Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He also serves as Chief Scientific Advisor to Wilmar International Ltd (Singapore), Asia's leading agribusiness company. As Chief Scientific Advisor to Wilmar International Ltd, Prof Chua oversees and coordinates research and development on food/food ingredients and food safety in Wilmar’s R and D centres in 9 countries. He is co-Principal Investigator of a 10-year (2019-2028) collaborative research program between Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory and MIT. The “Disruptive Technology for Agriculture Productivity”, which is sponsored by CREATE, National Research Foundation, Singapore, aims to develop photonic and non-invasive sensor technologies to monitor crop health and productivity in real-time. Prof Chua is also the Principal Investigator of a new 5-year research consortium called: “High Productivity Precision Agriculture” which is supported by a grant from ASTAR, Singapore. He was the Director of the Singapore National Synthetic Biology Program 2017-2023. Prof. Chua was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society, United Kingdom (1988), an Academician of the Academia Sinica (1988), and a Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2006). Professor Chua received his BS (1965) from the University of Singapore as a State’s scholar and AM (1967) and Ph D (1969) from Harvard University as a Fulbright Scholar.
